Razgrad is a town in northeastern Bulgaria and the capital of Razgrad Province, built upon the ruins of the Ancient Roman town of Abritus on the banks of the Beli Lom.
Yet in the countryside, Razgrad is within a 1.5 hour drive to Varna – the biggest Bulgarian seacoast city, and even closer – about 60 - km to Rousse – the largest city on Danube river in Bulgaria.
Some of Razgrad’s landmarks are the Varosha architectural complex from the 19th century, the characteristic clock tower in the centre built in 1864, the St Nicholas the Miracle Worker Church dating from 1860, the Momina cheshma sculpture and the Ibrahim Pasha Mosque from 1530. The mosque is the third largest one in the Balkans /excluding Istanbul/ and its reconstruction still has not been completed, having begun in Communist times. It is worth mentioning that in Razgrad there are a few very interesting museums and places of culture, one of which is the Ethnographic museum.
Today Razgrad is a typical small cosy town in the countryside of Bulgaria. The climate is mild, offering four seasons, the nature is beautiful and the local people are friendly and hospitable with foreigners. There are perfect conditions for hunting and fishing in the area around Razgrad and in the nearby villages, which are ideal for buying a villa or a bungalow.
