Halfway between Bourgas and Varna amongst a woody hillside, lies an open coastal stretch around Obzor. The small town of just 2000 inhabitants is conveniently located on the highway. It has a six km long sandy beach (the largest between Golden Sands and Sunny Beach). Despite this, the town is uncrowded even during the peak season. A small park lined with columns from a Roman temple reminds of a glorious past and ancient civilizations. The Romans also built a fortress in the vicinity to protect their sea trading routes between Constantinople and the Danube. Medieval Bulgarians also left their thraces by erecting a fortress called Kozyak nearby.
